POSITIVE/THANKFUL BOARD

I’m sure you have all heard of a vision board. It’s a board where you put your goals and dreams so you can see them. It’s a great visual! We should all have goals and dreams for our life. I don’t have a visual board. I have tried one. I kind of got discouraged because I felt like a failure if I didn’t meet my goal. I do have goals and dreams though.

I want to share something that I saw the other day. You will start with a blank board, canvas, whatever you choose to use. You can decorate it and make it cute, Pinterest has lots of cute ideas. I love Pinterest! It’s your blank canvas, you’re not going to put anything on it, yet.

Amazon has some cute things too. I like the grid with little clothespins.

As the year goes on you will begin to put things on it. Maybe photos, tickets, postcards of places you’ve been, special receipts, cards you’ve received, or print a special email or message you have received. Birthdays, photos, or notes of encouragement to yourself. Random acts of kindness that someone did for you or that you did for someone. Scripture or quotes that have helped you. Answered prayers!! It can be anything that is special to you. This will be your POSITIVE/THANKFUL BOARD!! It will be a visual for you to look at when you get discouraged or just want to remember those sweet memories. At the end of the year, you will look on it and be thankful and encouraged for the positive things that happen throughout the year, instead of the goals you didn’t accomplish, or the not so good things that happen. You will take it all down at the end of the year and put it in a file folder and mark it 2018 to keep and start all over the next year. I think this is such a good idea. You can keep your vision board as well if you have one.

My blank board.

I’m ready to get my positive/thankful board started. I’m going to back to the beginning of January and put on what I’ve missed thus far. An example…One day It was raining and I wanted a parking spot close to the door at Walmart. I’m also thinking at the same time, how far I would be from the place you put your shopping cart when you’re done. Yes, I put them where they go. I opted for the spot closes to the door to park. When I came out, it was raining, I put items in the car, and just as I’m about to walk to put the cart up, an elderly man walking by, said, “I’ll take that for you.” Y’all, it’s the little things. I’m going to write that down and put it on there. It’s a small thing to some, but it was a big thing to me. There is always something to be thankful for. We have to look for the positive in situations & circumstances instead of the negative.

I have started mine. I still have a couple things to add. I went with simple. I can’t wait to fill it up throughout the year.

I would love for you to share your ideas with me as well. Do you have a vision board? A positive board? What works for you? Leave me a comment below.

BE YOURSELF

aid108432-v4-699px-Be-Yourself-Step-3

Welcome to my first blog. My name is Davilyn. I have been married to my HS sweetheart for 30 years. We have two sons, two daughters-in-love and 6 GRANDS! They call me GIA!!  I am a Texan, living a Southern, Simple, Blessed life.  Not always easy, but always worth it.

I’m not one to make New Year’s resolutions but this year I have decided to be ME.  It’s not that I haven’t always been me, but I do tend to compare myself to others, not intentionally, it just happens. I think a lot of us, well maybe not you, maybe it’s just me, compare ourselves to others. We compare our raw image to someone else’s photo-shopped image. We only see their perfect image because it’s been edited.  All of that is good to disguise the zits, wrinkles, crows feet, tans lines, mask or whatever else…   We want to cover the imperfections. I use that analogy because I am a hobbyist photographer. I am not really saying all of that to talk about a photo, I am here to talk about the real me.  The first lady to try to cover up who she was, happened way back in Genesis, Eve. Yep, she tried to hide from God but it didn’t work out.

The past couple of weeks I have been thinking about who I am, my likes and dislikes, what comes naturally to ME. It hasn’t been easy because in the back of my mind I think, what would so & so (that’s Texan talk ) think. Well, it really doesn’t matter what they think.

I love Jesus. I love my family. I love the beach. I love cruising. I love the Lido deck. I love sunsets. I love nature. I love my small cozy home & to decorate it. I love sweet tea, diet dr. pepper, dove milk chocolate candy & french fries. I like the Dallas Cowboys & Houston Astros.  I love my kind of fashion, which most of the time, consists of T-shirt’s, jeans/shorts & flip flops. But, I also like dressing up & girly things. I’m not big on expensive jewelry or material things. I’m a bargain shopper.  I like to take photos, lots of them. I am organized & like to organize events. I am OCD about SOME things. I am a clean freak & actually like to clean my house. I am an introvert & a visionary.  I’m compassionate, loyal, honest, merciful, adaptable, flexible, curious, a fixer, people pleaser (working on that one) & yes, even sarcastic. I don’t like drama!! I don’t do small talk very well. I don’t like complaining. I don’t like when someone hides behind a screen critiquing other people. I don’t own a gym membership but do have the Chick fil A & Krispy Kreme donut app. I don’t have any type of degree, except by experience. I’m a Christian, wife, mom & grandmother(Gia) I’m far from perfect, but I’m ready to be myself.

I am fearfully and wonderfully made by my Lord, and so are you. (Psalm 139:14) So this is my year to learn to be comfortable with ME & not to compare myself with others. When I do that, I have a lack of respect, of who God created ME to be.

One more thing, we must also allow others to be themselves as well,  and not “judge” them for not being like you.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us Hebrews 12:1

I’ll run my race & you run yours. I’m 48 & still don’t have it figured out.

Thank you for visiting & I hope you come back.

Enjoying the simple life,

Davilyn 💜
