Weekend Trip/Fort Worth Stockyards

Howdy Y’all!!

We are from Texas and only live 3 hours away but had never been to the Stockyards. We went for my husband’s birthday; somewhere different for us.

When most people think of Texas they think of Cowboy hats, boots, horses, cattle. While I can say that not all of Texas is that way, Fort Worth is that way. The stockyards is like going to the Wild West. It’s a historic district with original brick roads. It has a Stockyard museum, Texas cowboy hall of fame and cattle drive “parade” twice a day. Every Friday and Saturday night is a year round rodeo in the Cowtown coliseum. If you enjoy the “night life” it’s very lively.

My Cowboy and me. ❤️

There are a lot of shopping venues, western stores, boutiques, restaurants, music and a lot of walking, just to name a few things to do.

I got to sit on a steer. Thought that was picture worthy.

We had supper at the Cattleman’s Steakhouse, which has been featured on the food network. Y’all, it was so good and they give you a lot of food. I’m so bad at NOT taking food pictures. Sorry! I had a chicken fried steak, baked potato, salad, bread and I could not eat it all. The service was also great. Also, we do call our evening meal supper, not dinner. Texas country folks, that’s us.

We normally always travel with my brother and his wife. Now he’s a true Cowboy. We went to Billy Bob’s one night. It’s the biggest honky tonk in the world but it’s actually kid friendly. Gift shops, electric bull, food, bars, live music and a nice kid friendly country dance floor. Line dancing, two step, overall fun. They have concerts from up and coming country singers, as well.

We did some dancing, too.

We had a great weekend trip visiting the Stockyards. It’s full of history, shopping venues, restaurants and entertainment.

We also made a trip to the Grapevine Mill Mall, The tanger outlet mall and our favorite “big” convenient store, Bucees. That’s a Texas store that is expanding to other states.

My feet hurt and I was tired when I got home but it was worth it.

If you’re ever looking for a weekend trip, I definitely recommend Fort Worth Stockyards.

Y’all come back now, ya hear!!

Liebster Award Nominee

Y’all, I’m so excited! My blog was nominated for an award! How did this happen to ME? I feel like a celebrity saying, “It’s an honor to be nominated,” but it really is, especially this short time in my blogging career. The most amazing thing about the nomination is it comes from a fellow blogger, The Plentiful Cup… she is such an amazing blogger. Her blog is real, raw, honest and she encourages other women to be who they are and to accept themselves. She is bringing more awareness to mental illness, especially PPD. I love how open and honest she is. You should check out her blog.

I started blogging because I wanted and needed something for me. I had been putting ME off. It had been on my heart for years but I never took the next step. It’s easier for me to express myself through writing than speaking. I love blogging about our trips and sharing my own travel photos. Blogging is how my passion and purpose come together. It led me to become a travel agent. I love helping people plan their vacations. I blog about many things, travel, inspirational, motivational, my life/family, whatever the Lord lays on my heart at the time. I’ve met so many people from all around the world, which wouldn’t have happened without blogging. The name of my blog describes me well, I am a Southern, Simple, Blessed woman. I hope you enjoy my blog as much as I enjoy sharing it with you.

The award I’m nominated for is the LIEBSTER AWARD. It started in 2011 and is an online award that is given to bloggers by other bloggers. I am so excited, honored and privileged that out of thousands (or more) of bloggers around the world that I was chosen. The winner will be announced at the end of the year. Thank you so much The Plentiful Cup for the nomination.

Liebster means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcomed. It’s so special to me that someone thought of that when they read my blog.

Along with this nomination I have to tell 10 random things about myself, answer questions, nominate others and give them questions to answer.

10 Random Facts About Me

1. I’m married to my high school sweetheart for 31 years. Young love can work. I married at 17.  More in love now than ever.

2. I have 2 sons and 6 grandchildren.

3. I had a licensed home childcare for 19 years.

4. I’m a cruise addict

5. I love summer

6. I can be a girly girl but I am also a sports fan. Houston Astros & Dallas Cowboys…WOOHOO

7. I’m a planner and have to make myself be spontaneous at times.

8. I’m OCD about SOME things but not ALL things.

9. I make my bed every day first thing in the morning.

10. I love being outside.

1. If you were a type of weather what type of weather would you be and why?

I would be sun mixed with clouds. I can be bright, shiny, warm, a hot mess and I can be cloudy with a possibility of showers, tears. But I’ve learned that those tears water my grass, and grow me.

2. How would you describe yourself? Now ask someone else to describe you? Are the answers similar or different? If they are different why do you think that is?

I am a Christian, family person, loyal, sincere, honest, a peacemaker, over thinker and a worrier. I ask my husband to describe me and he said determined, dependable and beautiful. I’ll take it. 😊

3. Are you comfortable with the person you are currently? Why or why not?

It took me a long time, but finally, at 40, I become comfortable with who I am. I decided it was time to stop worrying about others opinions of me and live my life in freedom. But there are still things that I’m working on like perfectionism, not looking at my physical flaws and my own insecurity.

4. What did you Google last?

The Galveston cruise cam because my son and daughter-in-law were leaving on a cruise.

5. What was the most awkward conversation you have overheard?

I don’t know about the most awkward conversation that I’ve heard, but it’s very awkward to be in a public restroom and to hear someone on a cell phone having a conversation in the stall next to you.

6. You can eat 1 thing for the rest of your life, what is it?

Tex-Mex (Texan-Mexican food)

7. What has changed about you since you started blogging?

I have become a travel agent through my traveling/cruising blogs. I have become more vulnerable which is hard for me. I’ve also become more confident in myself.

8. Which actor/actress would play you in a movie about your life?

9. If you could have lunch with anyone, who would it be? Why? What would you eat?

My Granny, before dementia. She was so full of wisdom and love. A lot of times we don’t appreciate what we have until it’s gone. I would soak up every minute. We would have whatever she wanted to cook, which would probably be a baked ham, pinto beans, cornbread and sweet tea.

10. What have you seen that you wish you could un-see?

I will never forget, I was watching “Live with Regis & Kelly” and the news cut in with an airplane hitting the twin towers, LIVE. (9/11/01)

11. What would 2008 think about your answers to these questions?

That I’m stronger, braver and more courageous.

Now, I have the pleasure of nominating 10 bloggers.

1.Simple Life Simple Faith

2.Our Southern Life Blog

3.A Cowboy and Me

4.Fresh Grace for Today

5.The Chickish Chick

6.Simply Filled.

7.Chasing Heatherwood

8.Joyfully Overwhelmed

9.Wander Lust and Laughter

10.The Mid Summer Daydreamer

2.  If you could wake up anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would it be and why?

3. Do you have a favorite place or thing you do to unwind, if so where and what?

10. What habit would you most like to break and what habit would you like to start?

11. What excites you and scares you at the same time?

Summer Lovin’

I know summer doesn’t “officially” start until June 21, but to me, it starts Memorial Day weekend.

I love summer!

Hair gets lighter, skin gets darker, water gets warmer, drinks get colder, music gets louder, days are longer, life seems better. Kids are out of school. Some are going on vacations, visiting family, going to camps and others enjoy time at home. They enjoy small things like staying up and sleeping late, water slides, small plastic pools, popsicles, ice-cream cones and home picnics.

Life seems more laid back and relaxed during the summer. I love sitting on my deck, drinking sweet tea, grilling, listening to music. At dark, I like to watch the fireflies. I remember catching them as a child, putting them in a mason jar and putting them in my room to watch at night.  I want to catch some with my grandkids this summer so they can have that experience.

It’s the small things in life that I enjoy. Wildflowers, sunsets, stars, moon, the frogs croaking, the birds singing, the crickets chirping…I love nature. I also like to hear wind chimes, when we do get wind during the summer. It is hot and humid here in Texas during the summer but we have fans on the deck and AC in the house, so we’re good.

Have a time that you put your phone down, disconnect from social media and make memories. Be in the moment, simplify and enjoy your summer. My motto is, don’t collect things, collect memories.

My freckles always come out during the summer. My granny use to tell me they were sun kisses, they use to bother me but now I love to be kissed by the sun. I love to be outside. It makes me feel better. All of the feel-good endorphins get going and we need the Vitamin D the sun gives us. Of course, use sunscreen.

My wardrobe in the summer consists of flip-flops, shorts, t-shirts, and sunglasses.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to enjoy your summer. I love to see pictures and stories of the good times people have.  I like to see that on my newsfeed rather than depressing things.

If you would like ideas about planning a vacation, staycation or ideas on what to do this summer, I can help you.

If you would like to join my vacation group it is Lost at Sea Travels with Davilyn

Whatever you do this summer, enjoy it, that’s the most important thing. 💛

Enjoying the simple life,

Do you ever feel like you don’t want to get out of bed? Or maybe you feel drained or like you have too much on your plate?

Have you heard the saying from an old commercial that said, “Calgon take me away” and you want it to take you away?

You’re not alone!

Relieve yourself of the guilt of trying to live up to unrealistic expectations.

You can only do what you can do!

We hear so much about detoxifying your body but have you ever thought about a mind and emotional detox?  We have so much to fill our minds, that it never rests. Have you been there? Are you there?

We all encounter so much on a daily basis that we don’t realize or even aware what it’s doing to our mind and emotions. Do you find yourself tossing and turning at night or feeling tired, grouchy, emotional or even depressed?

The reason could be that you are allowing everything to build up in your mind. I do know that there are things or circumstances that we can’t control.

We can be mindful of what we think and how we let it affect us.

You can not have a positive life with a negative mind or attitude.

What can you do about it?

Start by setting an INTENTION:

If you don’t intend on doing something, most of the time it doesn’t get done.

We get so busy that we forget to pray and talk to God about it, and then that opens ourselves up for the enemy to have a field day with us mentally, physically and emotionally.

Give it to God! Don’t play tug of war with God. Don’t give it to him and try to pull back to you. He wants it!  Believe me, I know it’s easier said than done.

A good cry! It can release a lot. When is the last time you shut yourself in the bathroom and had a good cry? It has a way of releasing. It can help!

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

When you become overly tired, exhausted and anxious, it shows up physically as well.

What can you do?

•Make yourself rest.

•Fill your mind with other things: read, watch your favorite movie or TV show. Listen to Inspirational music.

•Get outside in the sun.  Lack of sunshine can reduce our Vitamin D levels and it can have an impact on our moods. We need sunshine! If you feel emotional or depressed, give it a try.

•Move your body. Get the blood flowing. Go for a walk, exercise, do yoga, painting, gardening, anything to get you moving.

Your surroundings have an effect on your mental state.

A good place to start is by cleaning up your space.

Take steps to put things away, clean and declutter your space, it just makes you feel better. Burn a candle or use essential oils. Good smells can help.

Social media is a bittersweet thing. It’s great, it keeps you in touch with family and friends but it’s also like photoshop. It makes everything look a lot better than it actually is.  Social Media can make you feel like your not good enough, pretty enough, have enough…

It’s ok to say “no” or to miss an event and not have a reason for it. “No” is a sentence. You don’t have to have a reason.

Take care of yourself. You can’t take care of others if you don’t take care of yourself.

Take one day at a time!!

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”    Matthew‬ ‭11:28-29‬ NIV

Valentine’s Day

There are many different opinions on the celebration of this holiday.  Many people exchange cards, candy, gifts, flowers or more, with their special Valentine. They make it an extra special day and that’s wonderful.

Then there are those who don’t celebrate. They say it’s just another day for stores, restaurants, the greeting card company’s, etc. to make money.

Some feel pressured to buy something, even though they really don’t want to. Others feel left out or unwanted if they don’t have a special “valentine.”

Growing up I thought Valentine’s Day was about a school party. I would write on little valentine cards and attach suckers that I was going to give to my classmates. Poor teachers! Another day of kids being hyped up on cupcakes & chocolate.

My husband and I don’t make a big deal out of V-day. I had rather receive flowers on a day that I don’t expect them. We try to do special things throughout the year.

However, I do give something small to my grandchildren. It is an excuse to give them chocolate and maybe their parents will allow them to have it. 😬

So today will not be much different in our home. We may give each other a card but that’s about it. We will eat supper & watch Netflix together, as we do every other night. That being said, we are very much in love, we have been each others “Valentine” for 33 years.

Valentine’s Day is all about LOVE!!

And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.

1 Corinthians 13:13

How do you celebrate?

My Favorite Body Products

As I have gotten older, I have realized how important it is to use good products on your skin. I’m going to share five things that I use.

Goodnight Kisses

Goodnight kisses is a lip mask. I started using it almost a year ago. I can tell a tremendous difference on my lips. I use to have a problem with “cold sores” but since I’ve been using it, I haven’t had any problems. My lips have more color and moisture. I use it almost every night. Just put it on at bedtime.

Hot and Gold Face Mask

Hot and Gold is a moisturizing & firming face mask. I use it 3 times a week. I love the way it makes my face feel soft with added moisture and a glow.

Body Scrub

A body scrub is a great exfoliate. I use a couple of times a week. It gets rid of the dead, dry skin and softens your skin. You should always use an exfoliate before applying or getting a sunless tan. It will help the tan stay longer and look better. I really like “You had me at Aloha”

Perfectly Posh Hand Cream

I love this hand cream. It leaves my hands soft, smelling great and not sticky. It only takes a small amount.  I love “Good Vibes” but I have several fragrances. I keep one in my kitchen, one in my purse and one in the bathroom.

Epoch Sole Solution

Epoch sole solution is for dry & cracked feet. My heels have been cracked so bad, that they have bled. That hurts!! I have used several things on my feet. By far, this is the best product, that I have found. I put it on my feet every night before bed and then put on socks. When I first started using it took a couple weeks to get them healed & soft. I still use almost every night and it helps keep my feet from getting dry & cracked. It’s nice not to have cracked or bleeding heels.  This is also what they use in many nail salons.  A bottle lasts me at least six months.

These are things that I use the most. If you have any questions about these products, please let me know. All, but the Epoch Sole Solution, is Perfectly Posh products. They are all made with natural ingredients and essential oils.

I started using Perfectly Posh products and liked them so well, that I become a presenter. Here is the link if you want to look. The products that I have shared are under $25 each. The hand cream $9. 😍

Take care of yourself. It doesn’t have to be these products, but use something good on your skin, you’re worth it. 😊

Davilyn 💜

A Special Day

Eight years ago today, Cayson, our first grand baby was born, with a head full of black hair. I’m not gonna lie, when the doctor brought him out to meet us, I was worried…. he wasn’t that cute, he had a rough birth, but it didn’t take but a couple of hours and he was the cutest baby around. It’s still a joke around our house, that I immediately didn’t say he was beautiful, like most grandparents. Lol. 😳

His parents lived with us at the time, because our son was in nursing school. Therefore, I got to be around throughout the entire pregnancy. I remember the months leading up to his birth. The cakes, brownies, snickers & Mexican food was so good. No lie, I gained 20 pounds. I blamed it on his momma. Lol!

I had just turned 40 a month before he was born. It never bothered me to have a grandchild that young. I had the best Granny in the world and it was/is my goal to be just like her. I was excited that I would get to pick a grandma name. My name is so unusual and I don’t have to share it with anyone. I knew I wanted a name that was unusual, but cute & easy for him to say. Just a week before he was born we were watching TV and heard the name Gia. I knew that was it. My son says it means:

I like it!!

It’s so hard to believe that Cayson is 8 years old today. January 14, 2010 changed our lives. We become Poppa & Gia. There’s no way to describe it. If you’re a grandparent, you know what I mean. 😍 They are called GRAND for a reason. If you’re not, I don’t know how to explain it.🤷🏼‍♀️

After he was born we took him around and proudly showed him off. My youngest son was a senior in high school and played baseball. We took Cayson, just a few weeks old, to baseball games & tournaments that was 4 hours away. We all spoiled him! We never treated him like a baby. Oops!! But, he has turned out just perfect.

He is so kind, quiet, big hearted, lovable, maybe a little spoiled and a great, big brother.

I will proudly say, he loves his Gia!!💙
